Many imagine sitting on the beach with a laptop at your side and the sound of rolling waves lulling workers into a flow state in between sips of strawberry daiquiris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The reality is far less Utopian, most likely. But one thing that many underestimate is that remote workers have challenges, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Four out of five remote workers say they face challenges office workers do not,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/igloosoftware.lookbookhq.com\/resourcespage\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">according to a report by Igloo<\/a>. The bulk of this problem involves the lack of interactions workers have with their peers and managers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The difficulties that remote employees face include social, technological, support-related, behavioral and mentoring challenges. Each challenge creates a markedly different career experience than what one might expect from a centralized working environment.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b814789 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b814789\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n<p>Consider these situations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The loss of face-to-face interactions, which has implications on the individual\u2019s social-circle and mentoring<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Increasing dependency on collaborative technology to fill that gap (and the corresponding support and training for that technology)\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Many people want the best of both worlds \u2013 hybrid remote \u2013 so that they can have access to the social environment that comes with the traditional workplace when they feel they need it. Though, most all-remote companies say this will be catastrophic.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d44a345 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d44a345\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n<p>Remote works best when all members of a team are remote. Otherwise, no amount of communication in the world will be enough to compensate for the disconnect the remote employees feel from the in-office employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The important takeaway from these deficiencies is that there is no natural replacement for these in a work-from-home environment or remote setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Employers must be proactively engaging with employees to ensure that they have the support they need to succeed in their remote roles.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-02bf37e elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"02bf37e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Let employees procure their own technology<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4834a19 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4834a19\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n<p>It can take months to onboard new software solutions in an enterprise setting. Employees simply don\u2019t have the luxury of waiting for an enterprise procurement process to complete to get the tools they need to produce results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/igloosoftware.lookbookhq.com\/resourcespage\" class=\"broken_link\" rel=\"noopener\">57%<\/a>\u00a0of employees use at least one non-company approved app to do their job. This simply isn\u2019t acceptable for both the employer and the employee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To encourage ownership of the employee\u2019s path to success, employers should fund a technology budget that shall be procured by the individual employee rather than imposing restrictions on software to be approved and onboarded through a corporate procurement process.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f7ef75d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f7ef75d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n<p>This of course, excludes common technologies such as Slack or the Microsoft 365 suite, which enable communication and collaboration across the organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By not being present in a predictable, mostly-quiet, centralized workspace, employees might need a different set of tools than they would otherwise have when surrounded by colleagues.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a8586e4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a8586e4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n<p>Of course, the individual situation varies, but here are some common pain points for remote workers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Noise cancellation for background noise (eg. Krisp to block out noisy kids or ambient noise in coffee shops)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Personal organization tools (eg. Todoist to keep track of personal and professional tasks)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Streamlining tools to deal with the additional noise of online communication (eg.
