Do you even know what those jobs\u00a0might\u00a0be?<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-06a7e07 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"06a7e07\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.weforum.org\/agenda\/2016\/01\/the-10-skills-you-need-to-thrive-in-the-fourth-industrial-revolution\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">World Economic Forum<\/a>\u00a0reports that you need the ten skills listed below to thrive in 2020:<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:list {\"ordered\":true} -->\n<ol>\n<li>Complex problem solving.<\/li>\n<li>Critical thinking.<\/li>\n<li>Creativity.<\/li>\n<li>People management.<\/li>\n<li>Coordinating with others.<\/li>\n<li>Emotional intelligence.<\/li>\n<li>Judgement and decision making.<\/li>\n<li>Service orientation.<\/li>\n<li>Negotiation.<\/li>\n<li>Cognitive flexibility.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<!-- \/wp:list -->\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e8d64a6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e8d64a6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>The ten skills on this list make sense for the age that we are living in. But are those skills enough for you to succeed?<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>In 2014, I attended a lecture at the University of Toronto, where Marty Neumeier talked about the Rules of Genius. An important insight from his lecture\u00a0was the definition of the four types of work. These are:<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:quote -->\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p><strong>Creative:<\/strong>\u00a0Unique, imaginative, non-routine, and autonomous.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Skilled:<\/strong>\u00a0Standardized, talent-driven, professional, and directed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rote:<\/strong>\u00a0Interchangeable, routinized, outsourceable, and managed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Robotic:<\/strong>\u00a0Algorithmic, computerized, efficient, and purchased.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<!-- \/wp:quote -->\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-841f2cd elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"841f2cd\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Of these, you want to focus on creative work, because that is where you are likely to remain employable. Every professional can be creative in the work she does. When you work your craft, you are creating art. In his speech, Neumeier said:<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:quote -->\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>\u201cIt is important to keep learning.\u00a0Others cannot duplicate or reproduce your original work.\u00a0If you want to be original, you have to become an inventor and build the foundation to the structure of your invention from scratch.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<!-- \/wp:quote -->\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a153c39 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a153c39\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>You might have started\u00a0to realize that\u00a0you will need more than the ten skills listed earlier. Alvin Toffler once said, \u201cThe illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.\u201d<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>In some instances, relearning could be adapting what you know to a new reality. Take cell phones as an example. When they first came out, they were used solely as communications devices. Convergence happened, and now our smartphones are minicomputers. People had to relearn how to use a phone.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9094176 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9094176\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>In terms of work, you will have to adapt some of your skills to the jobs of the future, and you will also have to learn new skills.\u00a0Here are the additional <a href=\"https:\/\/www.experfy.com\/blog\/the-skills-you-need-to-succeed-in-2020-and-beyond\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">skills that you will need to succeed in 2020<\/a>.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-52d3fac elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"52d3fac\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\"><h3><strong>Learning how to learn.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-53bf892 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"53bf892\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Since skills are constantly changing, you have to learn how to learn. This concept is so important that they had a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coursera.org\/learn\/learning-how-to-learn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dedicated course on Coursera<\/a>.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-752ae0e elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"752ae0e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\"><h3><strong>Speed reading and reading intelligently.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<!-- \/wp:heading -->\n<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fc4f97b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"fc4f97b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Don&#8217;t stop reading.\u00a0Since continuous learning has to be a part of your life, and I recommend that you include reading books, you must learn how to speed read and read intelligently.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4f670b8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"4f670b8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\"><h3><strong>Note-taking.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<!-- \/wp:heading --><\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-af7fde3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"af7fde3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Note-taking is a form of learning, and there is an art to it. It also leads directly to the next skill on the list.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-43e7d94 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"43e7d94\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\"><h3><strong>Analyzing information.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<!-- \/wp:heading --><\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3224e5b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3224e5b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>When you take good and detailed notes, you can review them to\u00a0pick out the big\u00a0ideas,\u00a0understand, and make sense of information.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f556350 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"f556350\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\"><h3><strong>Spotting patterns and trends.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<!-- \/wp:heading --><\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c4035c0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c4035c0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>I recommend that you combine ideas from the different books that you read. By doing this, you may be able to spot ideas and trends. The beauty of technology is that you can copy and paste, move blocks of text around, and group information differently, giving you a new perspective.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a13aa12 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"a13aa12\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\"><h3><strong>Communicating \u2013 written and oral.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<!-- \/wp:heading --><\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2dd4009 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"2dd4009\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Even with very different books, you can combine ideas that once seemed unrelated. With your newfound ideas, you have to be able to communicate them to influencers, who can help you to shape and implement them.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-18d94b2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"18d94b2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\"><h3><strong>Understanding and leveraging technology.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<!-- \/wp:heading --><\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cd4e15f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cd4e15f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Technology is changing at an unprecedented pace, so you need to understand and keep on top of it. Sometimes it&#8217;s better to read articles in respected technology journals, as books may become quickly outdated.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-88e756b elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"88e756b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\"><h3><strong>Cultural awareness and sensitivity.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<!-- \/wp:heading --><\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-442e020 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"442e020\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>As a black woman, this is very important to me. As workplaces become globalized, we have to learn how to get along with those who are different from us. There is a lot of fear-mongering happening today, and different groups are marginalized. Imagine what would happen if you explored books that focused on other people and cultures. Read books to understand other experiences.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>You may be familiar with reading challenges already, but have you ever participated in one? I created the Strategic Reading Challenge, wherein you read books for career development to master a list of professional skills needed in the workplace. I invite you to join\u00a0a reading challenge and invite friends to join with you, so you can discuss the books you read with them. This will help accelerate your learning.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>I know of successful people who read for three to four hours each day, but in the real world, few people can do that.
