Given the projected increase of Baby boomers occupying the labor market, the researchers used statics and national polls to determine the most likely trends that will affect the workforce in the coming years.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bee8646 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"bee8646\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Five Workforce predictions for 2020<\/strong><\/h2>\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9d68efc elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"9d68efc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Flexible Schedules<\/h3>\n<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8dca3bf elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8dca3bf\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n<p>First on Amava\u2019s list was an increased\u00a0 emphasis on flexible schedules on the part of employers. We\u2019ve already seen some of the more cutting edge firms adopt this policy over the last five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/qz.com\/work\/1561830\/why-the-eight-hour-workday-doesnt-work\/\" class=\"broken_link\" rel=\"noopener\">Some studies<\/a>\u00a0have suggested that an enforced eight hour workday can actually hinder productivity and weaken staff morale overtime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No-one has devised a uniform replacement yet, but Boomers seem to thrive the most with a more open-ended approach to output expectation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe 8-hours straight notion of full-time work is morphing and Boomers are taking advantage of it. That might mean starting work at 7am, taking a fitness break for a few hours at three and finishing up later in the day.\u00a0 Flexible schedules result in a happier, healthier and more productive workforce but supporting flexible schedules takes work,\u201d Silverman added.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-39fdf0c elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"39fdf0c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. The Gig Economy<\/h3>\n<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d03f54c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d03f54c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n<p>On balance,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.longlifefunlife.com\/gig-economy-boomers-ultimate-guide\/\" rel=\"noopener\">older Americans don\u2019t need a full-ti<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.longlifefunlife.com\/gig-economy-boomers-ultimate-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">m<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.longlifefunlife.com\/gig-economy-boomers-ultimate-guide\/\" rel=\"noopener\">e ride<\/a>\u00a0to pillow themselves financially. On this, Boomers and Gen Z are on the same page, which is why \u201cgig economy\u201d has become such a favored buzz word.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether you\u2019re juggling a moonlighting job alongside your career, or working sporadically for companies looking to scale-up staff during peak seasons,\u00a0 gig work is a great way for Americans to keep earning without making a serious commitment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amava predicts that firms will advertise this kind of labor much more going into the 2020\u2019s.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-df1d5a6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"df1d5a6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Remote work<\/h3>\n<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-efc2edc elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"efc2edc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n<p>The same is (basically) true of increased instances of remote work.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theladders.com\/career-advice\/the-impact-working-remotely-has-on-workers-employers-and-the-economy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">As previously covered<\/a>\u00a0by Ladders, Boomers, Millennials and Gen Xers prefer to seek employment at places that are lenient about attendance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Silverman explains , \u201cWith conferencing tools ever-refining, the rules of work requiring regular face-time continue to change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And Boomers are on the vanguard. It fits in with travel, caregiving and a more flexible, \u201cwork-on-the-go\u201d or nomadic lifestyle that many Boomers seek.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-22d3222 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"22d3222\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Self-employment<\/h3>\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-65ef7d5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"65ef7d5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n<p>Not all Boomers are clinging to work out of desperation. According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theladders.com\/career-advice\/the-10-things-you-need-before-becoming-self-employed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">recent Freshbook survey<\/a>, roughly 24 million Americans are seriously considering taking up entrepreneurship in 2020, with older workers contributing significantly to this statistic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amava also predicts that a large portion of Boomers will, at the very least, take a shot at running their own business at the top of the new year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMany Boomers have assets. They\u2019ve figured out that they can use their homes, cars and property to start businesses,\u201d Silverman said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSome have even started businesses to teach other people to do it well. Whether they want to reinvent or continue progressing where they are, Boomers know they\u2019ve got to keep their skills sharp. These lifelong learners are self-starters who are all over mastering new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.experfy.com\/blog\/the-future-of-work-is-all-about-quantified-workplaces-and-ai-powered-recruitment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">workplace tools <\/a>on their own. \u201d<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4b53761 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"4b53761\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\"><h3>5. Inter-generational opportunities<\/h3>\n<!-- \/wp:heading --><\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9dfc2d6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9dfc2d6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Despite popular belief,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2019\/11\/12\/baby-boomers-will-be-workforces-fastest-growing-generation-in-2020.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">studies actually suggest<\/a>\u00a0that many\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Boomers are\u00a0 eager to work among and learn from younger generations.<\/strong>\u00a0 This is especially true regarding\u00a0 technological advances.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>This generation is unique in that they were before the digital takeover but not so much so that they have an antipathy toward it. A company replete with workers of varying backgrounds and ages is one that profits,\u00a0 and Boomers seem to have a pretty good understanding of that.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019ve gotten the memo that diverse perspectives, styles and skillsets make for interesting, healthy and productive workplaces,\u201d Silverman agreed.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1437cd8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"1437cd8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\"><h2><strong>Working for benefits<\/strong><\/h2>\n<!-- \/wp:heading --><\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-499a118 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"499a118\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>More tragic than the Boomers that can\u2019t afford to make rent after retirement age, are the ones that opt to continue working for the health benefits.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>Every one of the democratic front runners is defined by their health care policy prescription. As we continue to live longer, and our debt continues to rise, employers will have to consider championing insurance models that compel a slew of struggling Americans.<\/p>\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\n\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\n<p>\u201cA growing number of Boomers are getting back into (or staying longer in) the workforce primarily for health benefits. As the cost of health care has soared, health and wellness costs have become one of the largest annual expenses for the aging population.
