Because new learning should be built upon ideas you can defend intellectually. Not so that you can defend your ideas, but so that you can try to disprove them. The scientific advancement of knowledge is based on disproving beliefs by improving understanding. But trying to explain the one without an understanding of the other is like trying to explain to someone who doesn\u2019t know cricket how a match could possibly be taking so long. I could tell you some answers without context, but that\u2019s neither a nice way to teach nor a pleasant way to learn.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f1d87a9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f1d87a9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>So, before we can really start talking about <a href=\"http:\/\/www.experfy.com\/blog\/ai-ml\/what-is-the-difference-between-artificial-neural-networks-and-biological-brains\/\">the way your brain and body work<\/a>, we\u2019re going to need to establish some ground truths about the way that they came to be. The tiny bit of information offered here is intended to help you get your head around the fact that the watery meat sacks we live in are incomprehensibly complicated and side-splittingly ridiculous. If they were designed by a deliberate intelligence, then we have a lot of evidence that the gods have a truly absurd sense of humour.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-23a7e76 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"23a7e76\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>When you open and close your grip, the muscles moving your fingers are located in your forearm. Most of your sense of taste is in your nose. Humans need water to live, but we can\u2019t tell if we\u2019re thirsty until we\u2019re dehydrated. You have the same number of neck bones as a giraffe, and that\u2019s the same number of neck bones in any given mouse or whale. And then there\u2019s the flying circus of randomness that governs how we see and hear and remember. We\u2019ll come back to them later.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"has_eae_slider elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-0fc8964 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"0fc8964\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"has_eae_slider elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-ba7ac18\" data-id=\"ba7ac18\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a40c2fd elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"a40c2fd\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">We see evolution every day<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"has_eae_slider elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-79331f8 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"79331f8\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"has_eae_slider elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-49aec56\" data-id=\"49aec56\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-eb1ee36 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"eb1ee36\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The reason that I believe in evolution is that it is the only system that I\u2019ve encountered that can reasonably explain the complex redundancies and abandoned mistakes evident in all parts of every living thing that I have ever studied. Then again, I\u2019m biased. I grew up on a farm and every farmer knows that almost every plant and animal they raise has been bred from original stock into a version more suited for a particular climate or set of needs. That\u2019s why dairy cattle and beef cattle are kept apart, and the same general principles apply to all the different kinds of apples you might eat and to all the different kinds of wine produced by a single vineyard. Dog breeders are almost religious about these principles, and horse breeders are even more so.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-15a856a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"15a856a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Since farmers have been using evolution to breed plants and animals with specific characteristics since the very beginning of farming, the idea of evolution is obviously much older than Charles Darwin. His grandfather Erasmus even mentioned it in a poem long before Charles was born. Really, you can look it up.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fcd77c6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"fcd77c6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>How quickly things evolve is based on how long it takes each generation to produce the next generation. Turtles evolve more slowly than chickens, and some other things evolve much more quickly than either.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e32f687 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e32f687\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>As I write this, most of the world is trying to cope with a deadly virus while clusters of unvaccinated people who don\u2019t feel infected are serving as virus breeding grounds, helping it to evolve into new forms right before our horrified eyes. We\u2019re already seeing that some of the new forms are more contagious. Others seem to be more capable of infecting children. And a single unvaccinated person might have hundreds of new variants growing inside of them, competing to see which one gets to spread to the neighbours. Horrifying, indeed&#8230;<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-58ceca7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"58ceca7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>But I digress.\u00a0<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"has_eae_slider elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-c7ee583 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"c7ee583\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"has_eae_slider elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-c373682\" data-id=\"c373682\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d2ac91f elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"d2ac91f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Darwin\u2019s\u00a0 theory of how evolution works<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"has_eae_slider elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-156e74c elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"156e74c\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"has_eae_slider elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-2d738d9\" data-id=\"2d738d9\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e0ad15c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e0ad15c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalgeographic.org\/encyclopedia\/charles-darwin\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Charles Darwin<\/a> came up with an idea about how evolution could happen. He suggested that when groups of living things change over long periods of time, it is because of their environments. The slight changes that help a turtle survive more easily than his brothers and sisters on one particular island get passed on to that turtle\u2019s offspring. And since it\u2019s easier for him to survive, he\u2019s more likely to have more offspring. Eventually,\u00a0 generations later, we reach a time when all of the turtles on the island are descended from that one, and that island\u2019s turtles are different from turtles elsewhere.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f650dd7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f650dd7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Little changes in individuals can eventually lead to big changes in a group of animals. Big enough changes that we call the new group a separate breed, like with dogs, or even a separate species, like with lawyers. That was a joke. Please don\u2019t sue me.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-70ba6cf elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"70ba6cf\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>One of the things that Mr. Darwin could not explain was how something as complex as an eye could be useful enough to pass on to the next generation, if it wasn\u2019t already fully formed and functional when it first appeared.
