heard leaders say they were concerned about trust.\u00a0<em> How will I know people are doing their work if I can\u2019t see them at their desks?<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-38c0523 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"38c0523\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>While there\u2019s always an outlier, research says your worries about trusting team members are unfounded. Gallup agrees, telling leaders to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gallup.com\/workplace\/316931\/build-trust-boost-productivity-within-remote-teams.aspx?utm_source=workplace-newsletter&amp;amp;utm_medium=email&amp;amp;utm%E2%80%A6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> ditch their trust issues<\/a>. Their advice aligns with ours: study past performance, and trust that. If someone has always been a good performer, they\u2019ll continue to be, whether working from home or at the office.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-73a5e47 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"73a5e47\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Where you do need to think about trust, however, is the trust your team has for its leader and the organization.\u00a0<strong>Institutional trust<\/strong>\u00a0is important in virtual teams. Research suggests that teams perform better when they trust the organization. We can build trust by sharing information freely and fairly and by resourcing teams and individuals equitably.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-dc3e8e9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"dc3e8e9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Also important is <strong>relational trust<\/strong>\u00a0in virtual teams, especially when a team is new. One way to do this is to make space for non-work talk on your teams. Dedicate the first few minutes of every meeting to checking in as human beings, rather than co-workers. Share appropriate information about your personal life and affirm the personal lives of your colleagues. One of the most important things you can do as a leader is to assess how knowledge is shared in your team: is it reaching the team members who are most at the periphery? Is it timely? Is it efficient, with the right medium (email vs. video conference, for example) for the task? If so, you\u2019re establishing strong connections.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5e53e8e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5e53e8e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Researchers say another type of connection is also important for high-performing teams:\u00a0<strong>high quality connections<\/strong>\u00a0(HQCs). HQCs happen when we have regular, short, positive interactions at work, no matter if those interactions happen over Slack, email, or Zoom. HQCs give us a sense of positive energy in the moment, especially when we can tell the feeling is mutual. Researchers believe HQCs lead to higher performance because high quality relationships and the resulting psychological safety allow for greater learning in organizations and may contribute to innovation.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8306241 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8306241\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>How can you create more HQCs?
