\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tIoT has paved the way for smarter technologies, and will only continue to\u00a0proliferate with the drive to connect absolutely everything, and the emergence of 5G networks worldwide to support that goal.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe ‘smart city’ is a broad term, but loosely can be defined as connectivity working behind the scenes in infrastructure and with urban planning for improvements of residents \u2013 for example, in sustainability, security, or optimising the flow of traffic.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\u201cUntil recently, smart cities were thought to be best underpinned by a centralised, cloud-based data processing and analytics engine that would collate data from different sources across the city,”\u00a0said Tim Sherwood, vice president of business development for mobility and IoT at Tata Communications.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Eighty-five percent of IT decision makers say they have at least one IoT project in the proof of concept, learning or purchase phase in their organisation, according to a Microsoft\u00a0survey.<\/a>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\u201cWe are already seeing more involvement from senior-level executives in using IoT to transform the business; clearer, business-oriented goals for projects; and a willingness to adapt organisational structures and procedures to better support IoT and other transformational technologies,\u201d Felix Gerdes, director of digital innovation services at\u00a0Insight UK said.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tAccording to\u00a0figures<\/a>, the rate of adoption shows no sign of slowing down and is expected to increase all the more in 2020. Microsoft predicts that 94 per cent of businesses will be using IoT by the end of 2021.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
