data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\u201cEveryone seems to be doing it, from every government agency, to the corner dairy,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cio.co.nz\/article\/649106\/inside-nzqa-digital-transformation-getting-culture-right-challenging-norm\/\" class=\"broken_link\" rel=\"noopener\">a CIO recently commented on the state of digital transformation across sectors today.<\/a>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cdd8800 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cdd8800\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tTrue, the term \u2018digital transformation\u201d is often used in relation to \u201cIT transformation\u201d or \u201cbusiness transformation\u201d but even though they are closely related, the terms are distinctly different, notes Claus Mortensen, principal analyst at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecosystm360.com\/#\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Ecosystm.<\/a>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e76eed3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e76eed3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tAs he points out in a recent Ecosystm report on the topic, digital transformation may require IT transformation to do it right if the existing IT architecture cannot support it.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-122a827 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"122a827\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cio.co.nz\/article\/641838\/digital-principles-kiwi-manifesto-demystify-digital-transformation\/\" class=\"broken_link\" rel=\"noopener\">But digital transformation does not really refer to IT systems but rather to<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cio.co.nz\/article\/641838\/digital-principles-kiwi-manifesto-demystify-digital-transformation\/\" class=\"broken_link\" rel=\"noopener\">an organisation\u2019s underlying business and its business processes \u2018going digital\u2019 and becoming more agile<\/a>,\u201d he states.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-57727d4 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"57727d4\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tDigital transformation will also require the use of various technologies such as cloud computing,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cio.co.nz\/article\/648677\/we-moving-towards-ai-everything\/\" class=\"broken_link\" rel=\"noopener\">business analytics<\/a>\u00a0(BA),<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cio.co.nz\/article\/649952\/top-5-ai-trends-2019\/\" class=\"broken_link\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a0artificial intelligence (AI)<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cio.co.nz\/article\/638707\/machine-learning-new-normal\/\" class=\"broken_link\" rel=\"noopener\">machine learning<\/a>\u00a0(ML) and, going forward, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cio.co.nz\/article\/643024\/asia-pacific-region-forecast-become-next-iot-powerhouse\/\" class=\"broken_link\" rel=\"noopener\">Internet of Things.<\/a>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8e7b639 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8e7b639\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<aside id=\"brand-post-in-article-promo\" style=\"clear: both;\">So, what is in store for CIOs and their teams as they play different roles and work across their respective organisations, in bringing about this change?\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-27b995f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"27b995f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tDrawing from his research and findings from Ecosystm\u2019s ongoing G<em>lobal Digital Transformation Study<\/em>, Mortensen singles out five trends and their impact to both technology buyers and vendors in the year ahead:\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0d8c694 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"0d8c694\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\"><h2>One: Most CIOs will continue to misunderstand the nature of digital transformation<\/h2><\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c44fa3d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c44fa3d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tEven though the core of digital transformation is not really about IT, most CIOs and IT departments still fail to fully understand this, reports Mortensen.\n<blockquote><strong>Make sure that you push back if the data guardians in your organisation use the GDPR as an excuse to retain the status quo<\/strong><\/blockquote>\nThis, he says, is not only evident from the conversations that Ecosystm analysts have had with CIOs across different countries and regions, it is also reflected in the Ecosystm data.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7535814 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7535814\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWhen asked who their preferred partners are, the vast majority of respondents mention the various types of players that they are used to dealing with. More than a quarter (26 per cent) mention systems integrators. This at least indicates they are aware of the vast scope and complexities that digital transformation projects may entail, he says.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-aefd142 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"aefd142\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<aside style=\"clear: both;\">But fewer than 5 per cent of respondents indicate the type of company that would normally be seen as the best positioned for advising them on the essence of digital transformation: an overhaul of the underlying business models and business processes.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6c1917b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6c1917b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe effect of this is that we will be seeing a clear trend of a two-track approach to embarking on digital transformation &#8211; the underlying drivers spearheaded by senior management and the lines of business on one end; and the practical implementation of the technologies that sustain this process by the CIO and the IT department.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cc2dd21 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cc2dd21\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMortensen points out that this is not a new trend, as the move towards a more operational role for the CIO has been happening for years.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-432684f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"432684f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<aside style=\"clear: both;\">&#8220;Unless CIOs start to rethink the nature of digital transformation, this objective may fast become unobtainable.&#8221;\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e0de53f elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"e0de53f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\"><h2>Two: GDPR as the good - and the bad - excuse of 2019<\/h2><\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-eeb9109 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"eeb9109\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMortensen says the implementation of the EU\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cio.co.nz\/article\/641290\/less-than-third-asia-pacific-firms-ready-gdpr\/\" class=\"broken_link\" rel=\"noopener\">General Data Protection Regulation\u00a0<\/a>(GDPR) has forced organisations even outside the EU to take a serious look at their customer and consumer data.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-62640cd elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"62640cd\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t2019 will be the year where many companies will use the GDPR and similar local regulations as a pretext for overhauling how they store and use data throughout the organisation.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b8d8886 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b8d8886\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tHe says every organisation is different \u2013 especially when it comes to the ones where the IT department retains the ownership of data. Thus, he foresees seeing some organisations using the GDPR as an excuse for retaining data silos and restricting access to data.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c30a523 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c30a523\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tDigital transformation is ultimately about maximising the value of data, he says.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-14b364d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"14b364d\" customers should be happier if you take all the necessary steps to identify and safeguard their data and if you communicate it to them clearly.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div \u2013 has begun to sink in with the relevant people in most organisations, but it still remains too complicated for laypeople to understand or to use at this time, he says.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-eb049fa elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"eb049fa\"
