As the founder of an outsourced provider to startups in the BPO space, I\u2019m following these trends to guide our progress this year.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b60e15a elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"b60e15a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\"><h3><strong>Robotic process automation will automate processes.<\/strong><\/h3><\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c36d27f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c36d27f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tOne of the biggest trends we\u2019ll likely see in 2019 is a movement toward using AI and software to automate tedious business processes. In fact, it\u2019s estimated that over\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.smartdatacollective.com\/robots-hold-nearly-40-percent-american-jobs-early-2030s\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/www.smartdatacollective.com\/robots-hold-nearly-40-percent-american-jobs-early-2030s\/\">40% of American jobs<\/a>\u00a0could be lost to automation by the 2030s.\u00a0For the BPO industry, this is rather scary. While BPO has benefitted from being able to provide labor at a reduced cost by moving their operations to lower cost-of-living countries, software can provide labor that has almost no cost once it\u2019s trained.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3e4fae2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3e4fae2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\nHowever, while some may see artificial intelligence (AI) as the silent killer that will leave many people jobless and destitute, the truth is likely somewhere in the middle. This AI will be more likely to work alongside its human counterparts, doing the heavy lifting and tedious work for them so that humans can focus on what\u2019s really important.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6549504 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6549504\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThat\u2019s because computers are really good at performing monotonous tasks like diligently thumbing through piles of data to find trends or minor details that might have been missed.\u00a0However, they\u2019re not very good at tasks that require creative abilities or decision-making that is not based on clearly defined rulesets.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ede5d0e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ede5d0e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\nThis means that humans will still need to add their touch to make this software useful, and BPO companies will still have their place in managing AI and correcting its course when it goes astray.\u00a0In fact, smart BPO providers will likely be able to use these machine learning and AI tools themselves in order to increase efficiency for their own workloads. This will allow them to cut their own costs and make more profit on tasks that can\u2019t be so easily automated.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a5354c5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"a5354c5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\"><h3 aria-hidden=\"true\"><strong>There will be a larger focus on social media tools and automation.<\/strong><\/h3><\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-89bbed8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"89bbed8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSocial media has exploded. While at one time it was something that only teenagers cared about,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/273476\/percentage-of-us-population-with-a-social-network-profile\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/273476\/percentage-of-us-population-with-a-social-network-profile\/\">now everyone is involved<\/a>, and any business that is not using these platforms effectively is missing out.\u00a0Social media usage is now the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/184541\/typical-daily-online-activities-of-adult-internet-users-in-the-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/184541\/typical-daily-online-activities-of-adult-internet-users-in-the-us\/\">third most popular online activity<\/a>, and these consumers will expect every company to be just as invested in social media as they are.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8f6da89 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8f6da89\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tUnfortunately, managing a social media account is now a full-time job, or in some cases, many full-time jobs. This means spending hours on content that gets engagement and paying employees to answer customer questions and concerns quickly and in a professional manner.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2edebdc elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"2edebdc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWhile in the past, the call center was the way to go for tending to your customers, it\u2019s much less likely that they\u2019ll be willing to make a phone call to get answers for their concerns. In 2019, companies will be looking to outsource this work in ways that increase engagement and keep their customers happy.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6c97199 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6c97199\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\nThere will be a big focus on providing quality customer service, especially because social media is a double-edged sword. Great customer service can win the hearts of consumers and\u00a0even go viral,\u00a0but bad customer service can spread like wildfire and damage brands.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-866d598 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"866d598\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe internet is a very public place, and companies will be looking to outsource to BPO companies that can quickly address their customer\u2019s concerns and put out fires before they spread.\u00a0They\u2019ll also be willing to pay top dollar for services or products that can help them to grow their business. This might include opportunities to fix problems or to capitalize on PR opportunities in trending tags.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4231d72 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"4231d72\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\"><h3><strong>Cloud computing and SaaS will only get bigger.<\/strong><\/h3><\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d6bbd9e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d6bbd9e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMany moons ago, you had to host your own software solutions if you wanted to use them for your business. This required purchasing expensive servers that needed to be maintained, and that meant employing an on-site IT staff to manage everything for you.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cb58acb elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cb58acb\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tToday\u2019s businesses are much leaner than those of yesteryear, and in 2019, it\u2019s likely that we\u2019ll see a much bigger shift toward SaaS and cloud products. In fact, around\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/info.flexerasoftware.com\/SLO-WP-State-of-the-Cloud-2017\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/info.flexerasoftware.com\/SLO-WP-State-of-the-Cloud-2017\">95% of survey respondents<\/a>\u00a0have now adopted cloud technology.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-815e1f3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"815e1f3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe reasons for this are pretty clear. It\u2019s almost always cheaper to use a cloud service rather than an in-house solution, and it\u2019s even more beneficial tax-wise. Cloud services are Opex rather than Capex for accounting purposes, and that means those businesses can take their tax write-offs sooner rather than spreading them out over several years.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0588309 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0588309\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThis means that the BPO industry must adapt themselves to using cloud tools because those businesses will expect you to use their software when they contract you for outsourcing of various tasks.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-85cb598 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"85cb598\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\"><h3><strong>BPO companies will need to be more well-rounded.<\/strong><\/h3><\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-eccf6da elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"eccf6da\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tOutsourcing used to be all about call centers, but now you can outsource almost anything, and many lean startups and smaller companies will be looking for a BPO that can do it all.\u00a0This means providing customer service, social media services, design work, IT help and anything else that they may need.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8a1e8fc elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8a1e8fc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tHowever, this is not necessarily a bad thing, and it could actually be a saving grace for BPO companies that may lose work to automation and AI.\u00a0By shifting their focus to creative jobs and tasks that software simply can\u2019t do, they will diversify their offerings.
