But how is this done? At a basic level, there are three simple steps.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>1) Define<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Analytics is about: metrics, dimensions, and segments. You need to know what each one means and how to use it. Below is a detailed explanation of metrics and dimensions. While these categories pertinent in Digital Analytics,\u00a0they apply\u00a0to other domains as well.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, segmentation is using the previous dimensions and\/or metrics to divide the website traffic or the marketplace (an example of a different domain) into parts or segments, usually with the\u00a0goal to understand consumer behavior,\u00a0discover new business opportunities,\u00a0and more. It\u00a0helps you to see the world in colors.<\/p>\n<p>Dimensions and segments have a descriptive role, telling\u00a0you stories about your\u00a0conversions. Conversions are the most vital metrics to your business.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>2) Categorize<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>If you have different and multiple conversions, you should\u00a0categorize your conversions, which will\u00a0help you better\u00a0understand what\u2019s going on. The best simple method\u00a0of categorizing\u00a0your conversions is to divide them into macro and micro conversions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Macro Conversions:<\/strong>\u00a0Also called the outcomes, it\u2019s the reason for which your website exists. We should make a short list of conversions, learn how to describe them in simple terms\u00a0to anyone on our organization, and focus on improving them in everything that we do. Sometimes\u00a0you might\u00a0have more detailed and specific questions, but try to make things simple.
