A recent report from Dell highlighted the way COVID has accelerated the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.experfy.com\/blog\/digital-transformation-and-the-future-of-manufacturing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">digital transformation <\/a>efforts many organizations had been undertaking before the pandemic, albeit with areas such as cybersecurity getting as much investment as the rebuilding of business models. What\u2019s more, this increase in employment was not just found at the firm level, but across entire industries. So AI-savvy firms were not benefitting at the expense of rivals. The researchers suggest that this is because firms were using AI to become more productive, which helped them to grow.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b7acd77 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b7acd77\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>This expansion was often into new regions or product markets, as firms capitalized on their newfound productivity and efficiency. For instance, the <a href=\"https:\/\/oxcaigg.oii.ox.ac.uk\/GlobalAttitudesReport2020\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Global Attitudes Report<\/a> from Oxford University\u2019s Internet Institute reveals a public that is broadly speaking divided down the middle on the impact of AI in public life, with those in the East seemingly far more comfortable than those of us in the West.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-88748d5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"88748d5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The research was based upon the data generated by the <a href=\"https:\/\/wrp.lrfoundation.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2019 World Risk Poll<\/a> produced by the Lloyds Register Foundation. The authors suggest that those industries that are most reliant on furlough support from the government are also most likely to be at risk from automation.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3d892de elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3d892de\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>They identify young people as the most vulnerable, which is perhaps not that surprising, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csi.edu.au\/media\/uploads\/csi_fact_sheet_social_covid-19_youth_unemployment.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">research<\/a>from the University of Western Australia found that young people were most vulnerable to job losses during COVID in general.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6299cfc elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6299cfc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The paper highlights how the youth labor market is typified by high levels of consumer-facing roles in sectors such as hospitality, fitness, and retail. As such, the authors believe governments should offer support to help young people back into secure work.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9d0f6e6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9d0f6e6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><em>\u201cPersonalised support of our young people that can address multiple barriers to employment such as qualifications, transport, disadvantage, job readiness and communication skills is important,<\/em>\u201d they say.\u00a0 <em>\u201cIt\u2019s also important for policy leaders to address the increasing casualisation of the workforce and ensure they support those who are most vulnerable.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-285314b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"285314b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><i><p>The RSA do provide some solid advice in terms of the nature of this support, especially in terms of helping people to gain new skills and transition into new careers.
